Rule 3 no longer exists due to an update.
This page is being preserved as a historical article.

Rule 3 prohibited password scamming. It was one of the original Rules of Conduct, but as of 11 May 2009, this rule now falls under the Honour category. This rule encompassed the PIN Scam, Password Scam, and the Password Changing Scam. Due to the severe nature of password scamming, players who were caught breaking Rule 3 were almost always issued either a permanent mute or ban by Jagex.

NOTE: All password scams are still reportable under the 'Scamming' subsection of Honour, and the punishments for guilty parties remain the same.

Example[]

Person 1: Jagex blocks your pass backwards! See:****!
Person 2 reports Person 1 under Rule 3 for Password scamming.

Saying that Jagex blocks your password normally was not reportable, as this was true (it would prevent the entire line from being said). This was the main reason that people breaking this rule and/or pretending to be a Jagex Moderator asked for their victims' passwords backwards. However, it was also possible to make mistakes while typing passwords, which made it easy for a scammer to guess.
